International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8^th March every year and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. It has been observed since the early 1900s and continues to grow from strength to strength.

 

Whittles Coaches are proud to support International Women’s Day on Wednesday 8^th March 2017. Established for nearly 90 years, Whittles have been employing women in a variety of roles in an industry usually associated with men.

 

One such female employee is Celia Hollyoake, who has been working for Whittles since 2002. She passed her PCV test at the age of 18 and went straight to Travel West Midlands to work as a bus driver, as it was always what she wanted to do.

 

She became a school contract driver for Dixons Coaches and then Whittles when her children were at school so she could be home for the school holidays.

 

She is now a full time coach driver and has toured in Austria, Germany and Spain.

 

“I love the male environment in which I work. You just get stuck in and get on with it, but sometimes I have to lend a sympathetic ear to their problems!”
