Portsmouth has a wealth of visitor attractions to enjoy, but is forever famous for the battle of the waves. There are many reminders of the Rise of the Royal navy and you will have free time to visit the Historic Dockyard, home to the Mary Rose and HMS Victory, the Spinnaker Tower for magnificient views and perhaps Gunwharf Quays, with its many shopping outlets. You may choose to visit Southsea instead. Southsea is a coastal town with a fine gravel and sandy beach, just a mile from Portsmouth. It developed when Henry VIII built Southsea Castle for defence. The town has two piers, with amusement arcades and a ballroom. Attractions include the Blue Reef Aquarium, model village and the Royal Marines Museum.
